Question of the week - Inspire ME!

You guys ROCK and so does your music!! Thank you so much for sharing your favorite songs and all of your well wishes. Keep those comments coming!!

With all these new adrenaline pumping songs now on my Ipod, I have been asking myself what some of history's famous runners listened to get pumped up? Here are a few examples of famous runners. Their accomplishments inspire us runners and non-runners alike:

Steve Prefontaine - A middle and long distance runner for the University of Oregon.
He once held 7 American records for distance track events in the 70's.

Sir Roger Bannister - Ran the first sub-4 minute mile on May 6, 1954

Anyone from Kenya - They kick butt every time! It's genetic.

The cast of Bay Watch - They were the first people to make running in a bathing suit sexy. Who knew that running in slow motion could be attractive?!

So whether you are trying to set records or look good in a red one-piece, these are just a few of the many runners out there that can inspire us all to strive to reach our goals. But runners aren't the only people who can inspire you to do great things.

Please share with us the people in your life, famous or not-so-famous, that make you want to be better, succeed, and race to the literal or proverbial finish line.

Heeeeere's Jenny!

My friend Lynn is so great. :) Not only has she agreed to run a marathon with me, but she designed our training program and started this blog to help us get through this loooong 26.2 mile training process. And as if that's not enough, she's doing her runs in 90+ degree Florida heat. At least I have the luxery of weather in the 70's first thing in the am here in Indy. I LOVE the song suggestions already. My staples are:

Evil Deeds - Eminem
Bombs Over Bagdad - Outkast
Don't Stop Til You Get Enough - Michael Jackson
(don't wanna talk about it)
One Step At A Time - Jordan Sparks
Let's Go - Trick Daddy
and anything T.I.

Thanks in advance for cheering us on along the way! :)

Commenting on a post

Hey guys -

I've had a few people ask how to comment or have trouble commenting on the weekly question.  At the end of each post in smaller print is my name, the date that I wrote it, and "# comments."  If you click on the word "comments" it will open the comments that have been posted so far. At the end of the list is a text box where you can type in your comment and submit.

I hope this helps!  Please let me know if you have any more questions!  Thanks for you comments and support!!

Weekly Question #1

Well, we are entering week 6 of training and the long runs are getting longer.  Jenny and I have discussed that our running music is starting to get a little redundant.

Please help us build our play lists by sharing your favorite song(s) to listen to while you work out, clean the house, drive really fast, or dance in front of your mirror behind closed doors.  Thanks for helping to put an extra pep in our step!!

Welcome

Hello family, friends, fellow runners, and athletic supporters!!

My brave friend Jenny decided to run the Chicago Marathon this fall.  After some gentle nudging from her, much contemplation, and some strong words from my sister Laura, I decided to join her!  At times I still feel a little crazy for doing so but am excited to conquer this next challenge.

I can't think of a better person to train with than Jenny.  However, we live in different cities.  Actually, we live in different regions of the country!  Regardless, we will need lots of support through the long runs, early mornings, and temporary lack of motivation from each other and from our family and friends as well.  That is why we have started this blog.  It gives us an opportunity to keep each other motivated, to document our progress, and to involve you, our friends and family, in this awesome experience.

Please tune in periodically to count down the days until race day, watch our miles add up as we train, offer a few words of encouragement, and participate in weekly polls or questionnaires.  Thank you in advance for all of your support.  We look forward to seeing you at the finish line!!

Lynn
